The Path We Choose Featuring Rochelle Rice
Hey everyone, Umer here!
Most of us are taught to think our way through life. Push harder. Be logical. Power through. But in my conversation with Rochelle Rice, one idea kept challenging that approach. As she put it, “The body indeed has a language of its own. We just need to listen.”
Rochelle’s work sits at the intersection of movement, confidence, and nervous system regulation. Not in an abstract way, but in a grounded, lived one. Our conversation kept circling back to a simple truth. Clarity doesn’t always come from thinking more. Sometimes it comes from listening differently.
Here’s what I learned.
Movement creates clarity
Rochelle shared that creativity doesn’t start in her head. It starts in her body.
“When I move, ideas just start firing,” she said.
Movement regulates the nervous system and brings you back into your breath without effort. You don’t need a routine. You need motion.
Build a buffet of movement
She challenged the idea that movement only counts if it looks a certain way.
“It doesn’t have to be yoga or the gym,” Rochelle explained.
Her idea of the ABCs of movement reminded me that walking, dancing, climbing stairs, or playing catch all matter. Joy is what creates consistency.
Confidence can shift instantly
One of the most practical tools Rochelle shared was posture.
She said, “The moment I move someone into a stronger posture, the confidence shows up.”
Alignment changes how you feel immediately. Confidence doesn’t always need time. Sometimes it just needs positioning.
Listen, learn, live
This became the backbone of the conversation.
“Listen to what your body is telling you. Learn its language. Then live according to it,” Rochelle said.
She reminded me that even when it feels like we don’t have a choice, we do. The body usually knows before the mind is ready to admit it.
Resilience is flexibility
Rochelle reframed resilience in a way that stuck with me.
“It’s not about powering through,” she said. “It’s about being able to rise and recover.”
Burnout happens when we stay activated too long or shut down completely. Regulation lives in the ability to move between effort and rest.
Rewire the body first
When we talked about rewiring the brain, Rochelle gently corrected the idea.
“Rewire the body,” she said.
When the body feels safe, the mind follows. Decision-making gets clearer when the nervous system is regulated.
Trust yourself
Her closing message was simple and steady.
“Trust yourself,” she said. And for those who struggle with that, she added, “Borrow my faith until you have it.” She ended with a line that stayed with me long after the conversation ended:
“I said to my body softly, I want to be your friend. After a long breath, the body replied, I’ve been waiting my whole life for this.”
If this resonated, the full episode goes much deeper into movement, confidence, and learning how to listen to yourself in a world that constantly tells you to ignore your body.
